Far East Deep South + Beirut on the Bayou
Carrboro Film Fest is proud to present Far East Deep South, a documentary feature in which a Chinese-American family’s search for their roots leads them to the Mississippi Delta, where they stumble upon surprising family revelations and uncover the racially complex history of the early Chinese in the segregated South. Directed by Larissa Lam.
Opening the screening is "Beirut on the Bayou," a documentary short that follows Raif Shwayri as he travels to Louisiana to trace the life of his grandfather and uncover the rarely-told story of early Arab-American immigrants in the Cajun South. Directed by Brent Joseph.
The 15th annual Carrboro Film Fest is going virtual November 20-29. Rent individual film blocks for $4.99, or stream the entire festival for only $30 on Vimeo On Demand!
