Film School 101: Understanding Cinematography with Nicole Berland

  • Carrboro Century Center 100 North Greensboro Street Carrboro, NC, 27510 United States (map)

Every film represents a collaboration between directors, cinematographers, writers, actors, equipment operators, editors, and more. Each of these people makes choices that impact the story they're telling and how audiences will receive it. This workshop offers a crash course in the technical language of cinema. At a minimum, we'll touch on lenses, framing, lighting, and mise-en-scene. At the end of the workshop, you'll have an opportunity to apply what you've learned to the analysis of a shot.

Join us for this free workshop with Dr. Nicole Berland, film studies instructor at UNC-CH and Night School Bar. It’s a perfect way to start a day full of watching and discussing films.

Note: this event is free, but registration is required.
