Night School Bar is partnering with Carrboro Film Fest on two special free film classes: Equity and Education on Set: Trans Activism in Indie Filmmaking with Sowj Kudva on Friday, November 15th and The Power of Local Latine Stories with Victoria Bouloubasis on November 22nd.
Each night will feature short films with in-depth discussions with the filmmakers. Don't miss this intimate opportunity to connect directly with filmmakers.
The Power of Local Latine Stories features two documentaries made by NSB instructor Victoria Bouloubasis.
Un Buen Carnicero follows Tolo Martinez of Cliff’s Meat Market in Carrboro. It goes behind the courtesies of the butcher's counter on the eve of Independence Day to explore the complex realities of immigrant life while celebrating America's freedom and questioning its convenience.
Heroes of the Pandemic tells the story of a group of Latina doctors and activists who, in the absence of adequate state or federal support, take the community’s health into their own hands during the height of the pandemic.
Filmmakers and protagonists from each film will be in attendance to discuss the films and answer your questions.
The event is free to the public thanks to the sponsorships made by the El Futuro, Duke’s Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies, and Duke Arts.
